William is the midst of potty training. I can finally say he has more successes than accidents!! And as everyone told us, there would be one day that he sort of just “gets it”… and then he will be off and running – and that is exactly what happened!
He actually woke up the other morning (we still put him in a diaper at night) took his diaper off and went to the bathroom – I literally heard the song “HALLELUJAH! playing in my head!!
But… I have enlisted the help of some authors in my quest to get William Potty Trained – let me give you my top 10 books:
1.) Once Upon a Potty (boy version for me – although, I bought the girl one by mistake!) by Alona Frankel
2.) Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi (the illustrations are awesome!)
3.) Lift the Lid, Use the Potty by Annie Ingle (who doesn’t love a lift up flap book!?)
4.) Too Big for Diapers by Random House and John E. Barrett
5.) My Big Boy Potty by Joanna Cole (there’s a girl version too!)
6.) I Want My Potty by Tony Ross
7.) What to Expect When You Use the Potty by Heidi Murkoff (yes, the same lady from all the What to Expect When Your Expecting Books!)
8.) Potty Train Your Child in Just One Day: Proven Secrets of the Potty Pro by Teri Crane (very funny and easy-to-read book – William was not trained in one day by any stretch of the imagination, but it gave me some good tips!)
9.) Mommy I Have to go Potty! by Jan Faull
10.) The Ultimate Party Drink Book – Over 750 Recipes for Cocktails, Smoothies, Blender Drinks, Non-Alcoholic Drinks, and SO MUCH MORE!! (This one’s for Mommy and Daddy. Because let’s face it, we’re all going to need something to get us through this time! Whether you use alcohol or not, this book gives some GREAT drink ideas!!)

Wow- what a resource you are… and hilarious!
Steph
Yay! That is soooo cool! Hooray for William!
PS. Glad you and Jane liked my dorky poem! LOL!
Great list of books! The number ten is essential
Have a wonderful weekend!
I’ll keep #1 – #9 in mind for future reference. I think I’ll go ahead and pick up #10 for now!
I am entering in to potty training my second daughter. She just turned two…love the list. #10 my favorite!
Thanks for the laugh with #10. I am so glad my potty training days over for a little while.
Ahhh! That’s funny, Audrey–I’m going to need that book too and my kids are LONG potty trained. Congratulations to you, another milestone!!!! I’m off today to get the margaritas that just pour into a cup, I didn’t even KNOW about them but the last two times I’ve been socializing they’ve been there. My friend Pam says she keeps one chilling in the fridget at ALL times, lol.
There’s just no way to return the girl book either, is there? That’s something I would so go and do! Happy Friday!!! xoxo Stacey
My daughter is finally potty trained and all it took was the promise of M&M’s. It worked so well she went from never going in the potty to ONLY going in the potty in 3 days.
I am so happy that I don’t have to pay for those overpriced diapers anymore.
Good Lord woman did you buy every book in the potty training section? LOL! Don’t feel bad…you weren’t the only one ..:::ahem:.. to buy the girl version of#1!!
AND why is it that a man can potty train a child in two or three days? Geez! My best friends kids (t6he older two) were both potty trained when their daddy was on “leave”. . .all total potty training time..a week for two kids!! MAN!
My simple potty training plan. No diapers or pull-ups, only regular underwear/panties. No M&M’s (or whatever treat your kid loves) unless they use the potty- even if it is only a trickle. She got to the point in the first day where she went to the potty herself and tinkled and screamed from the bathroom, “Daddy, M&M’s please!”
My sister used the good old “fill them full of liquid and stick them on the toilet every 15 minutes and praise them once they went” theory. So, if you used #10 without the alcohol to fill your child full of drinks… well, it might actually prove useful!
Haha! I need the last one! Potty training went great with Luke- waited until he was 3.5! Took one weekend!
Glad it is going so smoothly for you!
Ha ha ^^. Good Luck! =)
I like book #10, you are to funny.
Love it!! We are actually listening to a potty CD in the car today! It came with a DVD. I am not sure the CD will help but I am trying it! haha
I need to try a book or something. Is the potty in a day book an e-book? I’ve seen one online but wasn’t sure it was good.
Looking forward to my son ‘getting it’ soon.
The book that encouraged my 3rd oldest boy was a book from Wal-Mart that you pushed a button and it made the sound of a toilet flushing….can’t remeber the name, but he loved the book.
However, we just moved and we are temporarily in a house with 1, yes 1 bathroom, SO when my 4th son starts using the potty too (which is right around the corner) it’s gonna be a race to the bathroom for the other 5 who are already potty trained.
Well, it sounds like your son is doing GREAT! He’ll probably be completely potty trained before you finish any of your Potty Training book choices above.
Sorry if I rambled.
God Bless,
Amber
oooo goody. thanks for the book referrals! we’ll be starting this adventure in the next few months. will pick up #10 first to get mommy & daddy ready!
Isn’t it a wonderful feeling when you know you finally have them potty trained? lol My boys are now in their late 20′s but I remember well how frustrating it would get at times but it’s just like you said, one day they just suddenly seem to “get it”!! Sounds like a bunch of great books to help the training along! xox
I think #10 sounds great!
I am NOT looking forward to potty training. Not at all.
Books really do help. At least they did in my daughter’s case!
Once Upon a Potty is a GREAT BOOK! It was the book that I used with both Caleb and Brayden. When it is Andrew’s turn I will have to buy a new copy. It has fallen apart with all of the times I read it. I wish I would of known about #10 the first two times around. I will keep it in mind for Andrew’s turn, but I don’t even what to think about it yet. Seems like I just finished training Brayden.

Sorry I didn’t realize that I was signed in on my WordPress blog that I just started playing with today, when I left the above comment. ~~Shana
I need to expand my reading to include these must-haves! My personal fave would be number 10 too, I think
.
My 7 yo was toilet trained at 11 months – don’t know how my mom did it, but she did. Poop was one of his first words.
I’ve been toilet training little G on and off for about 9 months – she’s now 2 1/2. She gets it, but doesn’t always feel like telling me. The funny thing is she always manages to go when we get to the little wee toilet that they have in some family washrooms in the mall. I guess she likes that I can sometimes sit there next to her … the family that pees together stays together LOL!
My daughter is still not ready although mommy is
Thanks for the list of books.
Mm, number ten…
A one humped camel makes a one humped poop. A two humped camel makes a two humped poop. Just kidding.
My favorite line out of that book! Cracks me up just thinking about it!
the ultimate party drink mix…that cracked me up!
LOL @ #10!! I didn’t know the “What to Expect” author had one out on potty training. I LIVED by her pregnancy and parenting books when my kids were little!
Oh HECK YEAH!!!! Although we didn’t need any books I’ll take no. 10 ANYday!!!
Thanks for the post, those resouces look great
Totally picking up number 10 today. The rest? Maybe I need them since Brother smacks his little chubby hands over his face and runs away screaming, “NO!!” when you ask if he wants to use the potty. It’s so much fun, I tell ya!
Thanks for the book list. We’re kind of sort of potty training our son. We really need to get in gear with our efforts though for him to have a chance to be successful!
Oh, and I like #10 as well.
Hooray for William!
I love the books too! I have a ways to go before I need those, but someday I’m sure I’ll be using ‘em!
It is a glorious day when they finally “get” the potty thing! Congratulations!! I love all the book suggestions too because I still have one more to potty train and it is something that I simply dread. Way to go William!!
Hi Everyone,
I am Teri Crane, author of #8 on the list: Potty Train Your Child in Just One Day.
If anyone has some questions or is really struggling, I’m here to help. Visit me at http://www.thepottypro.com
thanks! Bookmarked for a future date.
I need all of those books I fear!
Although, hoping not to tempt fate in saying this – today is the FIRST day we have made anything close to progress and we have tried potty training, over and over and over again in the last year.
