A fine day for a 10K
December 10, 2007 by Jane
I don’t know what I was thinking yesterday, but I decided to join my brother and sister-in-law yesterday in a 10K race.
That’s 6.2 miles.
Last year I ran a half marathon, but that was after a lot of training. And I was in good shape.
Right now, I’m just not.
But the three of us have signed up - and already paid - for a Half Ironman in July.
That’s where you swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run 13.1 miles. (Yeah… a measly 10K run doesn’t seem that impressive anymore, does it?)
So, yesterday was my attempt at jump-starting my training.
And today is the chance for my legs to get their revenge on me for springing a 6.2 miler on them.
I am sore. Sore is not even the word. I can’t even bend down without involuntarily uttering, “Ow, ow, ow, ow.”
The race photographer was kind enough to make sure my pain was captured online for posterity:

I woke up to this picture in my inbox this morning, thanks to my sister-in-law, who forwarded it to me (thanks, Nik!).
It is just all sorts of wrong (you know how you can pick apart every little thing that’s wrong with you in a photo?), but at least my hair looks good.
Oh, and shockingly, yesterday afternoon I was actually able to manage bending down to take our family Holiday Card photo with minimal outward signs of straining:

Never mind that it took about 5 minutes and three adults to get me out of that pose!

Cute Picture!
It’s funny but after I have ran a race I feel so energized the whole rest of the day. It isn’t until the next morning I realize how sore and tired I am. Great job on the race!
LOL! Oh, how I feel your pain! I get winded and sore just thinking about it. UGH - I need to get back on that treadmill (hinding face in shame).
That pic is too cute!
Congrats to you on the 10k! I’m exhausted just thinking about running that far!
Great job!
Congrats on the 10k!! I don’t doubt that you are sore! I wouldn’t even be able to move! LOL
WAY TO GO! I about died doing a 5K a few months ago! Awesome.
I totally respect people who would commit to marathons. Cause I know I can’t survive even 5 minutes of it. Good for you! Way to go!
Jane! You are Super Woman! Seriously! Oh, I love the family greeting card photo! You guys look wonderful!
Sounds painful, but worth it. Love the Christmas card photo too!
Ooooh man, that’s very painful. But not gonna lie, I’m envious. I’ve toyed around with a little walk/jog/walk/walk/walk/fall thing. It’s not as easy as it looks! xoxo
Wow, congratulations on the race—if I tried to run that far on Sunday, I’d still be out there today!
Congratulations on the race!!
Goodness.. you are an inspiration! I have tried to get into running the past few weeks and I am barely squeezing out 2 miles. HOpe fully I can work my way up! Nurse those legs, girl.
Ouch, I feel your pain! The good news is that you were able to even run a 10k without building up to it. Good luck with the half ironman! My husband does triathlons and they look HARD. He had planned on racing in a full ironman this past summer but training with a newborn just didn’t work out. Silly man.
I ran a half marathon in place for someone with my wife a few years ago without any training. The arches of my feet turned into tight little monkey fists and I had to resort to walking on my heels for a week.
More power to you girl. I think i would pass out LOL. That’s a great picture of your family!!
Congrats on a super finish! And what a beautiful card — I love it!
Yay Jane!!! CONGRATS! =)
Congrats! Wish I could run again. I SO miss it.
LOVE the Christmas card pic.
I hope your legs forgive you soon
