Actress Shanna Moakler (Crowned, Entourage, Dancing with the Stars, Meet the Barkers, Pacific Blue, The Wedding Singer) recently chatted exclusively with the Pinks & Blues Girls!
Shanna is currently starring in Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants (she held the title of Miss USA in 1995) on The CW with Carson Kressley and Cynthia Garrett.
Shanna shares with us what her family did for the holidays (including how she and her husband, drummer Travis Barker, celebrate their youngest daughter’s December 24th birthday), where she likes to shop, her decision to go vegetarian, her future plans and more.
Read on for our chat with this beautiful, down-to-earth star!
Pinks & Blues: You have a lot of exciting projects going on right now! TV shows, appearances, photo shoots, interviews… what do you love most about your work?
Shanna Moakler: I love being in front of the camera. When I was a child I used to watch old musicals like Singin’ in the Rain or The Easter Parade and I thought, “I want to do that!” I loved them because they did everything! They sang, danced, acted and modeled. And now I get the chance!
P&B: How was Christmas for your kids (Atiana, 8; Landon, 4; Alabama, 2)?
Shanna: My kids and I spent a fun day at Disneyland and watched the holiday fireworks and parade! Then, of course, family flew in, and we made gumdrop trees and spent a warm, wonderful present-filled day at home!
P&B: Do you do anything to let little Alabama (born on December 24, 2005) celebrate Christmas and her birthday separately?
Shanna: I celebrate Alabama’s birthday at “the half” (at 1 and 1/2 and 2 and 1/2) so she has her own special day and people aren’t burnt out from the holiday!
P&B: What are some of your favorite places to shop for your kids? How about for yourself?
Shanna: I shop for the kids at the Gap! They grow so fast! I have 3 kids, so I’d spend a fortune otherwise! And I like the Gap Kids clothes. I also get some specialty pieces at Fred Segal or Kitson Kids. As for myself, I like to shop everywhere! Boutiques, mostly!
P&B: You recently decided to go vegetarian. What made you make that decision and what has been the hardest part?
Shanna: My husband is a veggie and I always wanted to try it. Our first step was making our entire family go “organic.” I only wish we had done it sooner! I also read a book called “Skinny Bitch”, which opened my eyes to cruelty to animals, and that was it! It hasn’t been that hard for me… Los Angeles offers lots of great alternatives!
P&B: You held a poll on your MySpace page for your fans to help you name your new cat. You seem to be really great to your fans. How important are they to you?
Shanna: My fans are amazing! That even feels weird for me to say, “My fans!” I guess I don’t look at them as fans, but as friends or supporters. I didn’t come from a famous family or have a Hollywood edge. I had to work and audition and get rejected 1,000 times, so I appreciate when someone says they liked something I did. Because without them I wouldn’t be able to make the next small step to the next project. And I am very far from where I’d like to be work-wise, so they make what it is I like to do possible.
P&B: What are your plans for 2008?
Shanna: Hopefully to get more scripted projects! I really love reality TV and there are talks about a second season for Crowned… but I’d love to do more film!
Don’t forget to catch Shanna on Crowned, Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW!

This was a great interview!!! How awesome you got to meet her! So far this year I’ve been vegetarian all the way (last year I was too off & on about it!)
Steph

Great interview!! I haven’t ever watched “Crowned”, but I think it would be cool to watch, since I was in a pageant in 2006 and won Best Talent, Miss Congeniality and 1st Princess (1st runner up). She seems so nice and down to earth.
I follow Shanna on her Myspace page and loved the “Meet the Barkers” series on MTV. I really like her. She seems sweet and down-to-earth and beautiful to boot. I love it that we have a child the same age right now – 2! I know she’s going through a lot of what I go through.
Great interview!
I saw Crowned. I like her and I really love Carson Kressley.
I didn’t know that she and her husband were still together. For some reason I thought they had divorced?
That was a great interview! Thanks for sharing.
I watch that show.. haha but I gotta admit a few of the teams on it are a bit odd… phew! But its funny to watch.
Oh and I emailed a friend whos pregnant about the shower
if shes interested she’d have a great story!!!
I love, love, love her!
Cool. Is she vegan like the Skinny Bitch girls or simply vegetarian? Either is great, of course. I know almost nothing about her.
Good interview. I do remember her from Dancing with the Stars. It was nice to learn a few things about her.
She’s adorable! Last I herd, her & hubby had split.. just goes to show how un-In The Know I am!
Or at least where she got them?
And PS….. I, being self-proclaimed Boot Queen and all….NEED her boots in that last shot! How about those for a giveaway?
I love her names for her kids! She seems really “normal.” I’ll have to check out her show — anything with Carson has got my vote!
Get out!!! Okay, if I wasn’t already jealous of you all before…now? Now I’m drooling! How did you land such an awesome interview?!!!
*waving hello to Shanna* Great interview. You have a beautiful family!
She is cute. I loved Meet the Barkers. How cool that you guys got to interview her!

I’ve never heard of Shanna but great interview! Kudos to the Pinks and Blues Girls for such a cool one.
Very cool! She seems to be so down to earth and just “normal”! I loved her show Meet The Barkers and was sooo totally sad when there wasnt a second season! Its fun to watch as others go through pregnancy, lets others realize they are just like us! We all put our pants on one leg at a time and she seems like she is just one of us moms out in this crazy world!
hey. i love shanna! go shanna!!!!
