Our oldest son went pee pee in the “big boy potty”.
Yes, this was a MAJOR day in the life of my husband and I.
As I’m sitting here writing this… I’m laughing to myself. Before motherhood, a “MAJOR” day for me was… let me see, scoring some clothing items on sale or being able to wave down a taxi in NYC during rush hour immediately or getting my hair highlighted (and loving it!) or finally fitting into those jeans!
Now… today, on March 16th, 2007… I am seeing first-hand just how much my life has been changed by becoming a mother. And believe me… I LOVE motherhood – I’m SO SO SO not complaining here – just sitting here in total awe as to the changes in my life.
Unfortunately I missed the event this morning… but my husband was home. We are the type of parents who refuse to push our kids into anything until they are ready. I have had endless mothers ask me if William was potty trained yet (he’s two and a half!)… almost asking in a shocked disgusted manner – really saying “Isn’t he trained yet!?” And my attitude (which my husband and I have adapted from our own parents) has always been… he won’t be wearing diapers when he’s 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25… so let me enjoy this two and a half year old in diapers and not make him feel “less of a man” for not peeing yet in the “big boy potty”!
And today… was HIS DAY. Apparently my husband heard the trash can open and shut in the kitchen. So my husband ran out to see what William was in to… well, he had brought his potty into the living room – taken his diaper off – threw it out – and was going all by himself. I will say, WHAT A BIG BOY! And how freaking funny!
But yes… as we become mothers… it is so interesting to see how much your life does change… all for the better, but all so much. I still believe that it’s important to get your hair highlighted… fit into “those” jeans… and find some amazing sales… but those are things that are just a part of life now – they aren’t my life, not like my 2 little boys are.
So truly… who would have thought!?
