Congratulations to the winner of our very first Guest Blogger Contest,
What Makes You Lucky – Jennifer Remeta of Parenting Toddlers!
Jennifer wins a $25 gift card to The Gap! Thanks for your wonderful guest blog entry… and congratulations again!
Here is what makes Jennifer “lucky”:
I am forever running into strangers who have some type of opinion, no matter how warped, about my son. They are also absolutely determined to share it with me.
“What a pretty little girl!” To which I am often tempted to SHOW them exactly what makes him a little boy.
“He sure is a BIG boy!” Actually, he’s not. He’s only in the 23rd percentile for his age, even though he eats like a thrash hound. He also occasionally eats carpet fibers, dog hair, or paper, none of which apparently have any caloric value whatsoever.
“He’s not walking YET?” Yes, and no. He is walking just fine. He’s just not letting go yet. These things take time.
“He’s so skinny. Don’t you feed him?” This one always lights me up. I can literally feel the flames shooting out of my ears. He IS skinny. He also spent 10 days in the hospital at only a month old wasting away until he was under his original birth weight. Doctor’s FINALLY determined he has pyloric stenosis, and after surgery, he was back to eating everything in sight. I cannot help it that his metabolism has been in overdrive ever since.
These random comments always seem to chap my very last nerve. I have no idea why, I just know they irritate me. But at the end of the day, when my son is giggling as his Daddy gives him his bath, or as he is sleeping peacefully in his big, beautiful crib, I realize how very lucky I am.
I am lucky that these people care enough to even notice Alex. I am lucky that I even have my wonderful, adorable son in the first place. I love the fact that I am greeted every morning with a huge smile and outstretched arms. I live every day to see what new and amazing things my son will discover about the world. I laugh often at Alex’s antics, and I can’t help but enjoy the warm feeling I get when I see my son and his father playing and giggling together.
So bring on the silly comments! Go ahead, make my day.

Soo funny and soo true. I am a mommy to a skinny kid and everyone and their dog feels the need to inform me of what I am doing wrong. It was worse when she was smaller.
