I genuinely enjoy spending time with my family.
We don’t need to be doing anything fun, exciting or adventurous… I really just love their company.
Take yesterday, for example. My mom, Audrey and I were working (as usual) in my mom’s home office, and around lunch time we had to go to the post office.
Audrey’s boys LOVE the post office, so we drove up to her house (she lives a mile from my mom!), picked them up, and took them with us.
Audrey’s oldest, William (2 1/2), goes back and forth between calling me “Auntie Janie” and just “Janie.” Alexander (1 1/2) simply calls me “G.” (As in, “What up, G!?”)
William gets the biggest kick out of opening our P.O. Box with the key. And he explains the entire process to me… taking my hand, he directs me to the box… “It’s this way, Janie.”
Once we find the box, he says, “Now I’m going to put the key in the hole, Janie.” “Now I turn the key, Janie.” “Look! There’s presents inside!”
Alexander can’t really be bothered with staying still to open a mailbox. He must be exploring (I blame Dora!)… so my mom kept track of him yesterday while he wandered among the P.O. boxes.
Meanwhile, Audrey was waiting in line to mail a package. Once my mom and I were done with getting our mail from our box, and William and Alexander saw Mommy in line, their little faces just lit right up.
So priceless.
Alex went running over to her… “Mama! Mama! Mama! Mama!” Of course, everyone in line got such a kick out of him making his beeline to Audrey.
Then we had to go to CVS. My mom and I let Audrey stay in the car and rest (she’s very pregnant and due any day now!), while we took the boys inside.
William wanted me to carry him, so I walked around with the little guy in my arms (I know he’s not always going to want me to carry him, so I take it when I can)!
He amazes me with how smart he is (I can say this because I’m his Auntie, so it’s not bragging). 🙂
As we walked down the food aisle, he pointed and said, “Look at all the delicious food, Janie!” Although, he pronounces it “de-wish-ous” so it sounds extra cute.
Meanwhile, my mom had Alex sitting in the front of her shopping cart, saying “Hi” and “Bye-bye” to everyone who looked at him.
They are such little joys and they just melt my heart.
They are so good with my doggies, too. Bismarck and Ryder are very gentle with kids, and we teach William and Alexander to be very gentle with the dogs.
William will go up to them, give them big hugs, and say, “I love you, Bismarck.” Or, “Come here, Ryder honey, so I can give you a hug.” It’s just too cute!
Alex calls them both “Biz” – or “Bith” to be exact. He is obsessed with them drinking water, and constantly directs them to their water bowl… “Watah, watah!”
Hey, he’s a fan of hydration! 🙂
Well, there’s my “Auntie bragging” for the day. I was just sitting here thinking about what fun they are, and I figured I’d share it with you!
My kids are getting to the age where they’re just fun to be around and keep us laughing all day long. I loved this post because I could soooo relate!
They are so fun sometimes, and I say sometimes because there are days were I wish I could have a time out. Three little girls can suck it right out of you. I also get to see my nephews a lot, I watch them 3 days a week, when I am not at work. It is neat, they think of my girls as sisters. It really is cool to watch them grow up together. Especially when they are behaving 😉
When you really love the people you’re with, even the most mundane, everyday stuff is so special!
Tee hee! That’s so cute! I can totally see where you’re coming from. Having just spent a week with my two week old nephew, all I can do is gush about how cute he is and how sweet he is! It’s okay if aunties brag about their little nephews, right? LOL!
It sounds like you are such a close family…I love that! I’m the same way with my family.
Oh, and it’s so great that the doggies and the kiddies get along so well!!
lovely page, keep it up
