Ok, don’t judge me.
I have a dirty little secret which I have (finally) revealed to my husband because I think he was doing the same thing too!
I pretend to be SOUNDLY sleeping some nights when Benjamin starts crying so that my husband will feed him!
Ahh… it feels good to get that off me chest.
Literally… there will be some nights where I am SO tired, that I can’t even see straight… never mind getting up 2am or 5am to make a bottle. So I do the only thing I can do… I pretend to be sleeping a lot heavier than I actually am… and worse, some nights I even pretend to snore – all so my husband will do the nightly feed.
It’s funny because with William (our oldest) my husband and I took turns. My husband would stay up until midnight or 1am for William to need that bottle… and then I would take the next feeding – regardless of time.
With Alexander… since we lived in a one-bedroom apartment, my husband would sleep in the living room with Alexander – and I would sleep in the bedroom with William (since he was 12 months when Alex was born and still getting up once a night for a bottle – those were LONG nights!).
So now with Benjamin… we’re off our game. We probably should just get back to a schedule, you take him one night, I’ll take him the next – or something where it’s (dare I say it) fair.
And so… I know there’s lots of other little secrets that I could reveal… but those will be for later posts… right now this is the dirtiest one of all!
that is too funny!! SSHHH..I do the same thing 🙂 Does your husband know now that you spilled the beans? Have a great week!
I have a friend that does that same thing!! LOL. When I first read that you pretended to be asleep at night, I thought you were headed in a different direction…ahem…..nevermind. LOL
Oh I totally do that!!! And if he doesn’t wake up, sometimes, I thump him and say, “Becca’s crying” and roll over and go back to sleep. He gets up with her! I know it’s mean, but I got up all those times when I was nursing and he couldn’t help. And he doesn’t really mind getting up with her. But he sleeps so soundly, he rarely hears her first.
Oh, and I also thought, like flipflopmama, that you were going somewhere else with this. 😉
I have to say, the Hubs has always gotten up. When Luke was little he worked until midnight- then came home and handled the nighttime feedings since he was still up. I think I was the only mom with a newborn who got 8 hours of sleep at night!
Now if Luke were to wake- Hubs would handle it. I am lucky!
I do that too!! Mostly, now that my son is [finally] sleeping thorugh the night it is his morning cry that has us both faking it. I am a pushover though, and ALWAYS end up getting up with him. I think of his little cry saying “mom.. come get me, I am ready, I am all alone.” I feel guilty, as if, by some chance, my few minutes of extra sleep will impact his sense of security. Lame I know.
Ahhh, that same little ploy worked for me on Saturday night. 🙂
Been there, done that! I have the art of feigning innocence down to a science.
Tried doing that but to no avail 😀 Apparently, my husband’s snoring was very real lol.
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that does that. Love you blog!
Been there too! Problem was, 9 out of 10 times it was a battle of wills to see who could out fake the other! I usually lost 😦
Wow, nice trick. I’ll try if I have a baby. LOL
lol That is SO funny. I’m the only one getting up for the boys..especially when they are little. I think being the breastfeeding mom kinda forces me . HOWEVER I think my husband uses that as an excuse. Zander is 16 months old..I’m sure he can go through the next without breast milk!
You are soooo funny! I WISH THIS WOULD WORK!!!!!!!! My DH is tooo busy eating pillow to hear ANYTHING!!!! No for real a four and half YO and an 11MO and he HAS NEVER WOKE UP to get or do anything. God love him he is a HEAVY sleeper! (I really wish I could underline heavy not like me capitalizing it doesn’t emphasize it enough~LOL)
But GOOD 4 U!!!!
lol! I can’t do that as I nurse but have been known to do that when the kids are older.
Amy
Guilty!! My kids are not waking on a regular basis these days but I still try to wait him out! He does sleep much lighter than I do. hehe
