Jen at One Moms Blog “Blagged” me!
So here are 8 “careers” I’ve had (not necessarily in chronological order)…
1) Bakery Counter Worker – For some reason, as a sophomore in high school I really wanted this job. One of my friends worked at the bakery, and she was making a lot of money. To me, that equated to shopping. But I soon found out why she was bringing in the dough (pun intended) – she worked like 30 hours a week! Besides that important thing known as school, I was also into sports, so the practically full-time job on top of that wouldn’t have worked. This lasted literally two days at this job before I realized it wouldn’t work out for me.
2) Dog Walker/Dog Sitter – This was one of my favorite jobs! I did this on the side during college. It was a great because Ryder and Bismarck had a fun time playing with new friends all the time. And I met a lot of special doggies (and their owners)!
3) Envelope Stuffer/Collator/Stapler/Phone Answerer/Deliverer – As anyone whose family has a “family business” knows, everyone has to pitch in! From as far back as I can remember, I helped out at my family’s printing business in many different capacities. Free labor at times, yes. But we were all working toward one common goal, right?
4) Printing Salesperson – After I graduated college, I actually had a job at the family business that I could actually classify as a position. For exactly one year I did sales for the company. I really learned a lot working in sales.
5) Waitress – I waitressed with Audrey at two different restaurants owned by the same man. The restaurants were right down the street from our parents’ house at the time, so it was an easy commute. If you’ve never waitressed, it really is a tough job. And for the most part, waitresses don’t get the respect they deserve. It used to bug me that when the cooks messed something up, I was the one who got blamed for it. I also hated dealing with drunk people, as both restaurants were pub atmospheres.
6) Babysitter – I was a babysitter/weekend nanny for a cute little kid the summer before my senior year of high school. He taught me to realize that “Why?” is a child’s favorite question, and that to a 4-year-old there really is no answer that will satisfy that question.
7) Camp Counselor – This was another one of my favorite jobs. The summer before I went to college, I worked as a camp counselor at the YMCA. I was in charge of a group of 7-year-olds and I got so attached to them. They were great kids. Very hard to believe that they are 16 years old now! I probably wouldn’t recognize them if I saw them!
8 ) Pinks & Blues co-owner – This job, of course, is by far the best I’ve had, and truly is my “career.” I get to do what I love all day – write, research, test products, blog, and be with my family (not to mention I can take my dog to work)!
Anyone who wants to do this meme, feel free to tag yourself! And have fun!
I would love to have the same kind of job you have as #8 🙂 You are blessed
My husbands family was in the restaurant business and I would never WANT to be a waitress!! For sure!! It is a tough job!!
I wouldn’t have like the dog-walking thing at all (hate to admit). Like your site. Thanks for visiting mine 🙂 It’s always great to meet new bloggers!
waiting tables is TOUGH! I did for a while at one of the harder restaurants in Dallas. I nannied for a long time, but my favorite job, besides what I do now was being waitstaff for the season ticket holders at the Dallas Stars games! Ok, I am now going to do this meme!
Wow, Jane, for such a youngin, you’ve certainly been around the career block!
I agree about the waitressing thing–I did it for a few years too. And I’m a 20% tipper unless they never come back and check on us. xoxo
my sister worked with me in 3 different jobs… LOVED working with her 🙂
I like how alot of your jobs is working with the family 🙂 and who can beat your job now… so awesome!!! Thanks for playing along.
Congratulations that you finally find the best career for you, Jane.
Before I read all, I know you loved a job as a dog walker =)
Ooops! Tagged again!
I was a waitress for my parents’ restaurant, but it wasn’t too tough – breakfast and lunch crowds tend to be more forgiving LOL
Dog sitter/walker sounds so much fun! I would have loved that job ! I think I’ll tag myself and post this too later tonight, sounds like fun. Ha, I’ve just been a stay-at-home mom for 8 years, I have to think hard if I’ve even had 8 jobs 🙂
You have definitely had a variety! 🙂
