Wendy Irvine started Multiple Moms Rock after giving birth to her twin boys in 2003 and coming up empty in her search for a cute t-shirt that would celebrate raising twins. Then, after one horrifyingly long afternoon with her then toddlers, she thought, Why Can’t I Have a Time Out? and the Multiple Moms Rock t-shirt line was born! Wendy focuses on creating elegant, humorous sayings paired with cool designs and attractive colors for moms of twins, triplets and quads. And she has recently expanded her line to include t-shirts for Dads of multiples! Wendy lives in California with her husband, twin four-year-old boys and two dogs.

1.) Have you always been entrepreneurial?

I loved babysitting as a kid — not the babysitting part. . . the getting paid part. I quickly realized how much I made was up to me as long as I had an exhuberant attitude. At sixteen, I became a waitress and my parents were stunned to see me pulling wads of $1 and $5 bills out of my pockets after a shift. I was hooked. But I should also give credit to my grandfather who always worked for himself and owned a typewriter repair shop. Poor grandpa: Does anyone even remember what a typewriter is??

2.) What was the moment that you said to yourself “ah-ha….! I’m on to something here!”?
Wait a minute. . . was I supposed to say that? When sales started rolling in it definitely occurred to me that we had something fun, but when my picky-picky, highly critical sister in Tucsan bought one of my T’s for her girlfriend who has twins I thought, now if Shelley likes my shirts, they must be okay!

3.) Do you love what you do?
Not to sound corny, but I really, really do. The only downside is being pulled between loving my boys and loving this small business. I could easily pour sixty hours a week into my work. You might think: On T shirts? Yes, there’s many ways this business could expand big time. It looks like a T shirt business, but it’s really a business that shows appreciation for moms and dads (and soon grandmas) of twins, triplets and quads.

4.) On your journey to getting to TODAY, has the quest remained the same for you or does it change as you grow?
Definitely has changed as I’ve “grown” (in quotes because I’m not sure I’m growing as in “maturing” or just growing sillier). I once worked with a go-getter who claimed to have a five year plan and, at least for me, I couldn’t imagine having such a plan. It would feel like a straight-jacket to me and would actually impede creativity and growth. I like to roll with it (meaning life) and see what we can cook up.

5.) Best words of wisdom for anyone seeking their passion.
I get misty at this question because I think finding one’s passion in their work life is so critical to evolving as a person and having a life. Whether you’re rich or poor, if you don’t dig what you do, it must be pretty hard to get up in the morning. I’ve heard about people who have jillions of dollars and yet have nothing to do all day. It sounds fun for awhile, but eventually you’d feel useless and bored. Best words of widom: Make your own opportunities. Nobody gets discovered anymore — we have to discover and believe in ourselves.

Sun or Snow?
Maui!

Coffee or Tea? Coffee.

Early Bird or Night Owl? I’m a nothing bird at the moment. With kids, I never seem to get enough sleep.

In the evenings… TV or Computer? Computer.

Fruit or Donut? Wellllll, I’ll be honest, donut.

Cell phone at night… On or Off? Off!

Heels or Flats? What are heels? Those things that you walk on that really kill?

Sweet, Salty or Sour? Sweet!

Are you renting… Romantic Comedies or Documentaries? I wish I was renting something, if I rent anything these days it’s a book.

Fiction or Non-Fiction? Both! I loved Green with Envy and The Glass Castle.

Remember that raising multiples takes serious endurance, folks! Give Mom (and now Dad!) something that says you know she’s (he’s!) doing a wonderful job. Rock on over to www.multiplemomsrock.com right now!

Margaret Light is co-owner of BeauLily, LLC, a company created to supply attractive, comforting products that provide therapeutic physical and mental stimulation for our beloved elderly family members and friends. BeauLily’s story began with Margaret’s creation of a TwiddleMuff for her Grandma Lily, and the company grew from there. Margaret lives in Illinois with her husband, three sons and dog Ned.

1. Have you always been entrepreneurial? If yes, what was the first spark for you? Was it as early on as selling lemonade on your street corner and loving the fact that you were working for yourself and making people happy and earning some money – or was it later on?

My earliest creative venture was making the wooden bead necklaces that were popular in the mid-70s and selling them to my friends and acquaintances at high school. It was a real buzz to see my ‘creations’ being worn by others and pocketing the $1.50 they were willing to pay me for them. My summer job for 4 summers running was working assembly line in a pastry factory where my creative outlet was to shape the ‘extra’ dough into ‘interesting’ shapes in order to amuse my friends at the other end of the oven. I believe that no matter what you’re involved in, you can bring creativity to it!

2. What was the moment that you said to yourself “ah-ha….!” I’m on to something here!?

My grandmother was 90 and had lost her sight and her ability to get around so she sat and listened to the radio/tv for hours at a time. Her hands grew cold and stiff. I was living in England at time and wanted to give her a Christmas gift that was going to be really useful. I developed the TwiddleMuff (which I originally called a Fidget Bag) to keep Grandma’s hand warm and active with a variety of gadgets to give her busy fingers something to explore. That was the only TwiddleMuff I ever expected to make but my sister-in-law, a physical therapist for the Arthritic Society, saw the TwiddleMuff and exclaimed that she knew hundreds of people that could use a TwiddleMuff. I investigated what else was available and discovered that the TwiddleMuff is unique!

3. Do you love what you do?

I spent 20 years in a corporate role and did feel empowered, recognized and rewarded – which I understand is rather unusual. Still, I made the decision to leave and to see what I could create without the resources and bureaucracy of a major corporation behind me. Things I thought would be easy are often hard and those things which others struggle with, I can handle quite readily. By far the best part about the TwiddleMuff business is getting feedback on how much they’re appreciated. Also, today I went into a local Pharmacy and asked if they had heard of TwiddleMuffs. The clerk said indeed he was familiar with them but they had not received any yet from their wholesale distributor. People had been going in to this pharmacy and asking for them! That is oddly thrilling!

4. On your journey to getting to TODAY, has the quest remained the same for you or does it change as you grow?

My life goal has always been to arrive at the end of my life knowing that I’ve made a contribution, been thoughtful about how I live and that I’ve remained open minded and positive about personal growth and my relationships with others. My husband, 3 sons and mutt, Ned give me ample opportunity to test this daily!

5. Best words of wisdom for anyone seeking their passion.

Not everyone is blessed with a passion – so if you’ve got one, don’t ignore it. You have an obligation to honor your passion.

1. Have you always been entrepreneurial? If yes, what was the first spark for you? Was it as early on as selling lemonade on your street corner and loving the fact that you were working for yourself and making people happy and earning some money – or was it later on?

YOU KNOW, I CAN’T SAY THAT I WAS ENTREPRENEURIAL IN THE SENSE THAT I SOLD LEMONADE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN I WAS YOUNG, BUT I ALWAYS KNEW I WANTED TO DO SOMETHING CREATIVE. I ALWAYS FELT A BIT SQUELCHED WORKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE AND JUST COULDN’T WAIT TO LET LOOSE MY CREATIVE TENDENCIES. MY FIRST CREATIVE ENDEAVOR WAS AS A FREELANCE COPYWRITER. I LOVED DOING THAT–COMING UP WITH COPY FOR ADS, TAGLINES, PRESS RELEASES AND WEBSITES. I WOULD LIE AWAKE AT NIGHT WITH A THOUSAND IDEAS SWIRLING IN MY HEAD. A BEDSIDE NOTEBOOK BECAME A NECESSITY! 🙂

2. What was the moment that you said to yourself “ah-ha….!” I’m on to
something here!?

AFTER MANY SLEEPLESS MONTHS WITH MY SECOND DAUGHTER GRACE, I WAS LITERALLY DRIVEN TO CREATE SOMETHING TO SOLVE HER SLEEP TROUBLES. I DREW A VERY PRIMITIVE SKETCH OF SWADDLEAZE AND DIDN’T GIVE IT MUCH WEIGHT AT THE TIME. I TOLD A FEW PEOPLE ABOUT IT AND EVERY ONE OF THEM THOUGHT IT WAS A GENIUS IDEA–EACH MOM THAT HEARD ABOUT IT SEEMED TO ECHO MY FRUSTRATION WITH SWADDLING AND SLEEP DEPRIVATION. SO I BEGAN TO THINK I WAS ONTO SOMETHING BIG.

3. Do you love what you do?

I DO LOVE WHAT I DO–I GET TO STAY HOME WITH MY 3 CHILDREN, RUN A BUSINESS FROM HOME AND HELP MOMS & BABIES EVERYWHERE GET SOME SLEEP! 😉 CERTAINLY THERE ARE FRUSTRATING TIMES–WHEN THE BABY WON’T NAP OR MY INVENTORY IS ABOARD THE SLOWEST BOAT FROM CHINA BUT I ALWAYS KNOW HOW FORTUNATE I AM TO BE DOING WHAT I’M DOING. I’M LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM FOR SURE.

4. On your journey to getting to TODAY, has the quest remained the same for you or does it change as you grow?

WELL, THE QUEST TO PUT OUT QUALITY PRODUCTS THAT SOLVE COMMON PARENTING CHALLENGES REMAINS THE SAME–BUT THE WAY IN WHICH I GO ABOUT IT ALWAYS CHANGES AS I GROW AND MY FAMILY GROWS. MY CHILDREN ALWAYS COME FIRST AND WITH THE ADDITION OF MY THIRD CHILD, WORK HAS DEFINITELY TAKEN A BACK SEAT. AND THAT’S OK. I NEVER WANT TO LOOK BACK AT THESE YEARS AND SAY, “WOW, I SPENT TOO MUCH TIME PLUGGED IN TO MY COMPUTER”. I NEVER WANT TO MISS THE LITTLE “BIG” THINGS LIKE KINDERGARTEN GRADUATIONS, FIRST TEETH AND SUMMER DAYS SPENT LICKING POPSICLES ON THE PORCH. I WANT TO SAVOR EVERY MOMENT WITH THESE PRECIOUS LITTLE ONES.

5. Best words of wisdom for anyone seeking their passion.

MY FAVORITE QUOTE COMES FROM GOETHE: “WHATEVER YOU CAN DO OR DREAM YOU CAN, DO IT. BOLDNESS HAS GENIUS, POWER AND MAGIC IN IT.” DON’T BE AFRAID–TAKE EVEN BABYSTEPS TOWARDS MAKING YOUR DREAM A REALITY.

Here are some quick ones we want to throw in our interview just for fun!:

Sun or Snow? SUN

Coffee or Tea? DEPENDS–HOT COFFEE IN WINTER, ICED TEA IN SUMMER

Early Bird or Night Owl? WELL, WITH 3 KIDS–BOTH!

In the evenings… TV or Computer? COMPUTER-SOMETIMES THE ONLY TIME I CAN GET ANY WORK DONE!

Fruit or Donut? JELLY DONUT–DOES THAT COUNT AS BOTH?

Cell phone at night always… On or Off? OH GOSH–OFF!! I GOT RID OF MY BLACKBERRY A FEW MONTHS AGO AFTER BECOMING NEARLY ADDICTED TO IT. 🙂

Heels or Flats? HEELS OR BAREFOOT

Sweet, Salty or Sour? SALTY (AND VERY SPICY!)

Are you renting… Romantic Comedies or Documentaries? DOCUMENTARIES

Fiction or Non-Fiction? NON-FICTION

Adi Weber and children
Each Tuesday the Pinks & Blues Girls will give you a fabulous interview with fabulous women and men! We call this entry Perfectly Pink or Brillantly Blue… depending upon whom we are interviewing!

Today’s Perfectly Pink Lady is Adi Weber, co-inventor with her husband Dan of The Strollometer®.

The Strollometer is the first (and fabulous) computer/speedometer that gets you one step closer to getting back into shape after having your baby. Designed to fit onto any baby stroller, this 8-function wireless marvel will keep you up to speed. Just how lucky can you get? The Strollometer gives you your Speed, Max speed, Average speed, Distance, Trip time, Mileage, Temperature, Real clock time… all at your fingertips!

Here’s our Pink Hat off to Adi Weber

1. Have you always been entrepreneurial? If yes, what was the first
spark for you? Was it as early on as selling lemonade on your street
corner and loving the fact that you were working for yourself and
making people happy and earning some money – or was it later on?

GROWING UP, I TRIGGERED A PRICE WAR ON MY BLOCK FOR MY BABYSITTING SERVICES! ITS HOW I COULD AFFORD MY JORDACHE JEANS WAY BACK WHEN! MY OLDER KIDS (9.5 AND 8) HAVE REALLY INSPIRED ME – THEY’RE ALWAYS COMING UP WITH IDEAS FOR NEW GAMES AND TOYS!!

2. What was the moment that you said to yourself, “Ah-ha….! I’m on
to something here!?”

ABOUT A MONTH AFTER DEENA WAS BORN – AND STILL ANOTHER 16 MORE POUNDS TO LOSE – I DECIDED TO TAKE DEENA OUT FOR A NICE STROLL HOPING THAT SHE WOULD NAP AND I COULD SQUEEZE IN A LITTLE CARDIO TIME. I REMEMBER FEELING FRUSTRATED NOT HAVING THE KIND OF INFO I’D GET ON MY TREADMILL AT THE GYM. MY PEDOMETER JUST WASN’T CUTTING IT. THAT NIGHT I TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT SOMEONE SHOULD MAKE SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR A STROLLER. DAN, WHO IS IN ADVERTISING, TURNED TO ME AND SAID – YOU MEAN, LIKE A STROLLOMETER? WE GOOGLED IT THE NEXT MORNING – NOTHING WAS LISTED. TWO YEARS AND A MILLION STORIES LATER, WE MADE IT HAPPEN!

3. Do you love what you do?

ABSOLUTELY. I THINK RIGHT NOW WITH DEENA NOT YET IN PRE-SCHOOL ITS ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT AT TIMES TO JUGGLE THE BUSINESS AND FAMILY LIFE, AND LIKE ANYTHING WE HAVE UPS AND DOWNS. BUT OVERALL, IT’S A BLAST.

4. On your journey to getting to TODAY, has the quest remained the
same for you or does it change as you grow?

I THINK THE QUEST TO BUILD A GREAT PRODUCT THAT INSPIRES CUSTOMER LOVE AND LOYALTY ALWAYS REMAINS PARAMOUNT. SOME OF OUR BUSINESS GOALS, TACTICS AND EXPECTATIONS DO CHANGE OVER TIME.

5. Best words of wisdom for anyone seeking their passion…

TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. IF YOU FEEL IN YOUR HEART YOU’RE REALLY ON TO SOMETHING, THEN GO FOR IT, DO IT! DON’T LET ANYONE CONVINCE YOU ITS NOT SMART OR WON’T SELL. LISTEN, YES. BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOUR IDEA, IT WILL HAPPEN!

Some quickies just for fun!:

Sun or Snow? SUN

Coffee or Tea? COFFEE

Early Bird or Night Owl? EARLY BIRD

In the evenings… TV or Computer? COMPUTER (EXCEPT Tues/Wed – AMERICAN IDOL NIGHTS)

Fruit or Donut? BOTH. MY TRUE LOVE – STARBUCKS CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE

Cell phone at night always… On or Off? I CAN NEVER FIND MY CELL PHONE!! BABY DEENA MANAGED TO REPROGRAM IT AND PERMANENTLY CHANGE THE VOLUME LEVEL TO A WHISPER!!

Heels or Flats? SNEAKERS

Sweet, Salty or Sour? SWEET!!

Are you renting… Romantic Comedies or Documentaries? MY GOSH, ITS USUALLY FAMILY FARE. HS MUSICAL, SCHOOL OF ROCK, THE INCREDIBLES

Fiction or Non-Fiction? FICTION. (I’M A BIG HARRY POTTER FAN!)

So stroll on over to www.strollometer.com to know more, stroll more.
